Organisation

FOHH is a charity (charity number 1003110), independent of the National Trust (NT)

The activities of the FOHH are planned and organised by a committee.

The committee members and the officers are elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting held every November in Headley Village Hall.

Activities

Our activities are:

  • Represent the views of our members’ to the NT
  • Host themed walks and talks about Heath
  • publish quarterly newsletters
  • Commission a biennial survey of 8 permanent botanical sites to provide data about the state of the Heath’s flora
  • Undertake a regular photographic survey of the same 8 sites
  • Provide amenities for visitors (e.g. benches, a map, notice board)
  • Give grants to the NT to help with maintenance and equipment costs
  • Producing a map of the Heath

Biennial Botanical Survey of 8 Permanent Sites

The botanical survey is carried out every two years and is commissioned and paid for by the Friends.  It surveys the same 8 sites (the same sites as the FOHH photo survey) and gives an exhaustive record of the plants over the years.  The findings are given to the National Trust to help them assess whether its management of the Heath is going to plan.   The survey is undertaken by distinguished botanist, Dr Giles Groom.

Funding

FOHH is a charity and does not receive funding from the National Trust or the Government.

We rely on the support of our members and from occasional bequests from lovers of the Heath
